Welcome to HC 2016

Barbershop is simply AmaSing! - BinG! Harmony College 2016

Even though this was not the official motto of this year's BinG! Harmony College in Oberwesel on the river Rhine, it really fits the weekend.

After the traditional coffee and cake, the 250 singers had their first chorus rehearsals and quartet coachings until it was time for the first highlight of the weekend: The Coesfeld Cup.

This contest has been an integral part of the BinG! calendar since 2001, and dozens of quartets have already competed according to the Barbershop Harmony Society rules. This year, there were 8 newly established quartets among the 14 participating groups. Another newcomer was emcee Franziska Schmidt, who announced the following winners in the end: "Tante Lotti" wins with a score of 73,9%, followed by newcomer "Mix'n'Match" with a score of 72,4% and "Kavaliersdelikt" with a score of 71,1%.

All results can be found here.

On Saturday the Harmony College really took off with rehearsals for the men's, women's and youth chorus, seminars and quartet coaching with 13 international coaches. The faculty, as usual, consisted of familiar faces and new members who saw to a broad course offering.

Also the evenings had a lot to offer: On Saturday, the audience was surprised with musical and creative performances by existing groups as well as spontaneously formed quartets at the Chorditorium. On Sunday, all BinG! members had their annual general meeting and among other things elected new members to complete the board.

As it is good custom, the night never ends early for barbershop singers - the nights went on with tag singing, relaxed chats, laughter and almost intimate performances.

The staff did their very best to look after everybody's well-being, and was particularly applauded for their quick supply of beverages during the nights.

The closing concert on Monday was the last highlight of the weekend, where the coaches took the audience by surprise with their German adaption of a pole cat song, The winning quartets took the stage with some really creative performances and finally the choruses were able to demonstrate what they had been working on over the weekend.

This was a worthy end for an amazing weekend and the unanimous feedback was: It was great! We look forward to coming back next year!

The next Harmony College will be taking place from September 30th through October 3rd, 2017. We look forward to seeing you there. For questions please contact harmony-college@barbershop.de
